win some lose some

It was a good game, one we could have lost if we played worse or won if we played better. Playing how we did, we lost, but not by much.

I am sure the other coach thought of the same thing, but if a player didn't miss a steal base sign, another one executed a little better. If they didn't argue much.

It was a nice feeling going into the last inning, trailing 18-14 and thinking that we have a pretty good chance of winning. Then watching the girls show some restraint and doing a good job.

One of the things that is really kind of tough is the political aspect. One of the girls that argues with me the most, who is an okay player, but hardly a good player will argue with me about anything. Her dad is on the school board. At one point I had given her the steal signal, she didn't steal, so I said, Do you understand and gave her the steal signal again and she didn't steal. I was doing it to get a throw down to second so the person who was on third could steal home. finally I yelled across the field: "I want you to steal second."

Well the game and the cold took a lot out of me. So it is bedtime.

Sliding all over the place

Well well, practice wasn't so bad.

It was raining in the Adirondacks, so for most of the measly hour we have for practice. After the first half hour, I forced them to go out in the drizzle. Nothing like a little whining from 12-14 year olds to make a coaches day.

So the fun part was we put down a blanket, then a matt on the top of it. So the kids could run and slide.

[One of the troubles with one-hour practice is what ever you do, you aren't doing something else. For example: if we practice sliding, we are not practicing hitting; if we practice hitting, we aren't practicing stealing.]

I am not sure what to make of this, but almost always there is at least one girl who says, "I don't feel good, my stomach is upset." Sometimes it is the same kid, but mostly it is different players.

What I would thing would be 15 minutes of fun, was --- for most of the girls. About six girls did not want to slide. Not necessarily girls who were bad at it, but for the most part the girls that should not be on the team. The reason I say they shouldn't be on the team is because of their attitude. The ones who thought I wouldn't notice that they were leaning against the wall. The ones who generally walk when they are told to run.

If I do this again, those girls will have a harder life. Or they will watch the games from the stands. In trying to make it fun for all, I made it less fun for some and those who like to complain would be better off with something to complain about.

If it doesn't rain too much, it is off to Wells . I would like to get another game in, it's better to play in the rain than to practice in the rain.

And we could practice our sliding skills.

Of course the weather isn't always bad!

and tomorrow we start again.

Well well, the week is done and I wasted most of it away. But I wrote some and the Tigers have been doing quite well...

I can't believe how little I have done in the past week. Well I watched TV. I can see how that eats up people's lives. Things aren't so bad... The Tigers won. It looks like it was a good week for all of the Detroit teams that are playing.

Listening to Jimmy Eats World

I am up to about 20 minutes a day on the trainer, plus the stretching.

I am nervous about our game on Tuesday. Hopefully the girl I want to start on Tuesday threw over the break, like she said she would. We are playing Wells. The varsity always wants to beat us up badly. It seems the girls think about the team a lot too.…

It will be the second game, but perhaps the first game with all my players...

I maybe should have taken a nap today.

I hate plumbing, I tried to replace the thing in the tank that lets it fill up and stops it from filling up. I couldn't get it out.

I also bought a brake light for my vehicle... when I asked the counter woman if she had any idea how to get the lens off so I could put the light off she kind of snapped at me. Like asking her that was the stupidest thing I could ask her.

This is all I have to say.
